i had a problem configuring printers under kde3.2/cups getting internal server error. after failing to find a solution on googe and several forums, i figured out, what to do if you get 'server-error-internal-error' from cups using kde control center or cups web interface on http://localhost:631 when trying to configure existing printers (resolution, colors, page size, ...).
1. run "kdesu kcontrol"
2. go to peripherals -> printers
3. add -> add printer/class
4. configure your printer(s) and desired resolution, colors, page size, printout mode. note that you can configure more printers even if you have only one printing device. (gray-draft, color-photo-quality, and so on)
5. you should be able now to print using newly created priner(s)
6. restart kde & cups if the new printer configuration still doesn't work
be aware: you cannot change printer settings later. the internal server error will still show up, so you have to configure a printer when adding it in the kde control center or cupsd web interface.
i have kde 3.2.3, cups 1.1.20-r1, and a hp photosmart p1000 printer.
hope this will work for you.
