|
|
Hello everyone,
Excuse my ignorance, but I was wondering, can I use the Love-Sources kernel with other Distros apart from Gentoo (not that I don't like Gentoo, in fact I'm running Gentoo in my 2 PCs at home, but I would like to try SuSE Linux for my Studies).
Also, does anyone know how to (or point me to some documentation)patch a Vanilla Kernel to a love-sources kernel. I normally just download the .ebuild file for the love-sources kernel, but I was wondering if I could just patch my 2.6.7 kernel instead of having to download the entire kernel when compiling love-sources.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Regards,

it should work, it is just a kernel patch...
but please, go to #love-sources in freenode and ask there, because no support is given for love-sources from gentoo... _________________ geek by nature, linux by choice

There's nothing Gentoo specific about love-sources - it's a kernel patchset, so you can use it with any distro you want. As for patching it manually, it's pretty easy. Most love releases are based on one of the -mm patchsets, so the procedure is something like:
1. Extract the 2.6.7 (or whatever) vanilla kernel to /usr/src
2. Apply the mm patch
3. Apply the love patch
4. make menuconfig etc
If you need help, then as blue.sca said, the IRC channel is a good place to go, it's usually pretty active. _________________ Per Ardua Ad Astra

Sure it will work!
It just a patch for the kernel! _________________ http://www.mafteah.co.il |
