Since building a 1.4_rc system I've noticed quite a few odd quirks with KDE3.0.4. I have *exactly* the same KDE3.0.4 merged on a 1.1a system originally built in April/May.

When I emerge KDE apps on the 1.4 box, icons don't appear on the KDE menu. When I emerge on the 1.1a box, they do. Both are synced everyday and totally up to date. For example, Gwenview is an app that puts an icon on the KMenu. But on the 1.4 box - it doesn't!!

Anybody got an idea why?

...further to this, if I tried to add an icon with kmenuedit, this message appears in the console:

Quote:

WARNING: KLocale: trying to look up "" in catalogue. Fix the program

...and the icon doesn't appear. <sigh> Nowt in bugzilla either.

Here I go replying to myself again. ;) Anyway, just a note in case anyone else was getting annoyed with this problem:

This mornings kdebase update (3.0.4-r2) fixed it. :)

I have emerge rsync'd and I cannot seek kde 3.0.4-r2. I have

ls -1 /usr/portage/kde-base/kde
ChangeLog
files
kde-2.2.2-r1.ebuild
kde-3.0.2.ebuild
kde-3.0.3.ebuild
kde-3.0.3a.ebuild
kde-3.0.4.ebuild
kde-3.1_beta1.ebuild
kde-3.1_beta2.ebuild
kde-3.1_rc1.ebuild
kde-3.1_rc2.ebuild

so where is 3.0.4-rc2?

BTW I have the same problem with menu items. When you updated kde did they magically appear, or did you have to reinstall the packages to get them into the menu system?

I have no idea. Have you tried emerge sync'ing again to see if you have more luck with a different mirror? I defintely have it:

Code:

$ emerge -s kdebase
Searching...
[ Results for search key : kdebase ]
[ Applications found : 1 ]

*  kde-base/kdebase
      Latest version available: 3.0.4-r2
      Latest version installed: 3.0.4-r2
      Homepage: http://www.kde.org/
      Description: KDE 3.0.4 - base packages: the desktop, panel, window manager, konqueror...
