I went to www.rad-e8.com and saw the icon pack snow.E 2 and went all googoogaga. If someone from this forum (that owns a Mac) can convert the .dmg file to a .sit or better yet a .gz or .bz2 I would be grateful. I'm a fan of the Mac look and feel, but none of my friends own a Mac. If anyone can help me out, feel free to PM me.

Nevermind. The author is releasing it to winxp which will be in .ico format and that I can work with. All this trouble for some eye candy, lol.

A shame they can't build a webpage that doesn't require flash.

If not, I'm sure it can be adapted.

http://www.dotico.com/ has a few hundred OS8 style icons in ico format in thier copland collections. They aren't as cool as the ones you found, but if you like the mac look, you might like them.

I was going to give this a try. How annoying it was!

First, I had to find a Windows machine to do the download with ( arr flash arr ).

Then I had to locate a Linux version of Stuffit. ( arrr arrr )

Then, having unstuffed it, I needed to find out what the dmg file format was. It turned out to be a HFS disk image.

Compiled the HFS fs modules, loaded it as a loopback.

Turned out to be HFS+.

And that's right about where I gave up. :-P

This guy's site is, at best, annoying.

I opened it on a windows machine, and even then I got around to seeing maybe, 7 or 8 "icons"... due to the poorly-designed navigation and interface.

LOL.

Curious: Sorry I didn't make my original post clearer. But I did mention that you need a Mac to open that icon set. That's why I ask for help from the Mac owners. If it was easily done using linux tools, I would've done it a while ago and post a SS to the "Gentoo Desktops" thread and be happy. :)

Agreed that the site is annoying to navigate. I've mentioned before too that the icon set has been converted to winxp .ico format, so I don't know why you went through all that trouble. :)

Converting from .ico to .png should be fairly painless. GL.

pfff, ico files are simply bitmap images. so the real question is... does idesk support bitmap images? if not, one could easily use the gimp to convert a bitmap (raw image) into a png (compressed image) without loss of quality.

curious... you shoulda just downloaded the zipped xp icon pack... wouldnt have to go through all that trouble, no?
