I emerged Gentoo-sources r10 for XFS support in Gentoo-sources and noticed JFS filesystem support. What is the command to create a JFS file system on a partition as it is not covered in the documentation and how does JFS compare to XFS?

found the mkfs.jfs command in jfsutils but how are you supposed to be able to make the partition jfs if jfsutils isnt included on the "live" cd? Am I missing something here?

no, you're right: jfsutils is (AFAIK) currently missing from the install cd
btw, if you have another working gentoo system, you can:

1) use emerge -b jfsutils to create a jfsutils-1.0.xx.tbz2 package
(you might want to tune /etc/make.conf before doing this, since you
may need to compile it with non-strict optimizations)

2) copy .tbz2 on a floppy and/or expand it on a floppy

3) reboot and get the gentoo setup cd shell

4) mount the floppy and use emerge the tbz2 file or use the expanded
files copying /floppy_mount_point/sbin/* from the floppy to /sbin

5) now you can execute mkfs.jfs /dev/partition_you_need_to_create
6) remember to emerge jsfutils at the end of installation :)

it worked for me: i prepared the floppy on my home pc and then used it to install 2 servers with JFS.

hope this help!
