Alright, I finally got gentoo to boot up by itself with no intervention. Currently, I have lilo on the MBR on the RAID 0 on my HPT372 onboard controller. I use a regular hard drive for root and boot because I just wanted to be able to actually get up and running.
What I'd like best is to be able to have everything on the RAID and not need the extra hard drive. I would want to do this so I could have a dual boot with XP.
The next best thing would be to have just my root on the RAID and some extra support (I don't know what) required from the extra hard drive.
If none of the above are possible I could live with partitions of the RAID mounted /usr and such.
I'm pretty new to Linux so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, I am going to me making a new computer soon, and I feel that the onboard SATA RAID controllers on the motherboards will probably give me many headaches in the future. Are there any good RAID controllers out there that are integrated with Linux 2.6 that are <$200? Or should I just go with onboard SATA?
Thanks,
Mike |
