Recompiled neverball (after patching share/glext.h), still segfaults. _________________ to be concerned is good |

My problem is the same as fourwood and pvk's
UT2004 crashes (libGL.so.1 problem)
I have half the frame rate that I had with the old drivers (2545 fps compared to 5678 fps)
When I try to run Savage it crashes and says I need agp support
I have tried emerging the new drivers several times and it did so without complaint but had the problems mentioned above.
I have tried using the nvidia install script several times, once it complained that it would not be installing libGL.so.1 because I had a "mesa lib" installed all the other times the the installer never complained. GL programs seem to crash. I tried "glx-update nvidia" still no luck
Anyone wiith any ideas? |

UT2004 hasn't crashed on me yet (2.6.7-ck4, 4K stacks, REGPARM), I haven't played very long at a time since upgrading the nVidia drivers though.

Hi,
I just upgraded my kernel from 2.6.6 to 2.6.7 and the Nvidia drivers with it. UT2004 is very strange now. When I start it, I a strange clicking noise from the speakers until the Nvidia logo shows. When I attempt to start playing, I get the same clicks, and I end up killing UT2004 before the map loads (I only have so much patience!). Ut2004 is doing 100% CPU usage at this point.
Anyone else having this problem? I think I may go back to the old drivers.

Works great on 2.6.7love...
It also fixes the tv encoder not being recognized on newer cards like my 5700Ultra. FINALLY. |

Hi,
I was using nvidia-kernel-1.0.5336-r4 sucessfully with rivatv-0.8.5.
When switching to nvidia-kernel-1.0.6106 rivatv module stopped working.

Does this driver work with the GeForce 6800 GT series of cards? I notice the standard GeForce 6800 and GeForce 6800 Ultra are listed but not the GT. I'm guessing it should work fine as its based on the same chipset, etc... but just thought I'd better ask before getting one. |

I give up. I couldnt get glx to work in kde-3.2.3. It works fine with kde 3.2.2. I went back to 3.2.2 ( again ) and after reinstalling the nvidia driver, it seems to work fine. I even tried switching from xfree to xorg, but I still couldnt get glx working. I am guessing it was a problem with libglcore ( due to the error message ). Is this a n00b error, or does anyone else have this problem? |

Huh? Not sure I understand what you mean with "getting glx to work with kde"... What errors/problems do you have? kde doesn't have anything to do with glx, maybe except some screensavers in kdeartwork. |

Just for reference I unemerged the new drivers, undid my resolution changes to my xorg.conf, and installed the new drivers with the nvidia-installer without advanced settings (default way). 1024x768@105Hz x 2 displays works fine now, no wiggle/jiggle/fizzle on display 2. There's some bugs open about this problem.
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54984
That one is the main bug that should solve all the problems, the bugs blocked by it are listed there. |

I have the OpenGL screensavers working in kde-3.2.2, I cant get them working in kde-3.2.3. Thats no big deal, I dont need 3.2.3. Seems I am missing something though.
I installed UT2003 from portage ( I dont have 2004 yet ), it loads the first screen then when it switchs to full screen it goes black and closes. Same with UT2004 demo. Im working on Q3 but it seems to be missing the quake3 file ( emerged from portage ).
Sorry, this is kind of off track. If someone knows what I have wrong or can point me to a fix, I would appreciate it. Or maybe some tips to figure whats missing? I have searched the gentoo forum and a few others, and not had much luck.
Here is my glxinfo if it helps any, Im using xorg-x11-6.7.0-r1...

Ribs,
I'm having the same issue with the clicking, but it wasn't until I altered my alsa config as suggested elsewhere in these forums. Besides the clicking, UT2004 runs fine. |

Quake3 has a similar problem.... but when I see the black srceen I press alt-ctrl-F1 and then alt-ctrl-F7 and it works...

the new drivers broke my ut2004 aswell...
glxgears score goes through the roof though =]
anyway, i had to delete some old references (older driver left some symbolic links). removing these and running opengl-update nvidia again solved this.
now, the glx module loads and glxgears aswell as enemy territory work
but ut2004 fails to load opengl _________________ jabber: tuks@amessage.be

mmm I think that we have to wait a more stable version... I try Xorg instead of Xfree and I get the same problems... I hope to see new drivers very soon!! Bye
edit: glxgears score about 15000 FPS... so I think all is ok...
For UT2004 it's only a problem of unstable drivers in my opinion... _________________ Linux User #351189 --->A.K.A. "Johnny"<---

i've fixed it somehow....
don't know what fixed it but i guess it was copying over the /usr/lib/tls stuff
i replaced its contents by /usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib/*tls* (overwriting the old files)
putting ut2004 back in opengl mode after a reboot worked. _________________ jabber: tuks@amessage.be

I'm still installing gentoo through knoppix, but it says:
opengl-update nVidia
is what you should type... maybe it's case sensitive now... try it? _________________ Before you insult someone, it is often best to walk a mile in their shoes.

I've found that these drivers work well for the most part, but cause Farcry to crash upon loading just about any game (or soon afterwards).
This is with WineX 3.3.1 (Cedega won't even start). _________________ -It's gonna take a lot of fireworks to clean this place up. |

Got problems with 61.06 too after a "emerge -u world" where glibc (glibc-2.3.3.20040420 -> glibc-2.3.4.20040619) and baselayout (baselayout-1.10.1-r1 -> baselayout-1.10.1-r2) were the only vital packages beeing upgraded. Everything worked fine before. Now basicly ANY sdl based games (UT *, Tribes2, legends) refuses to work since they cannot load the opengl lib, plus wine(x).
Oddly enogh that the Q3 engine based games are fine.
The only solution i've found so far is to "LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/opengl/nvidia/lib ut2004". |

Probably. The 6800s are all based on one chipset (NV40). I don't think you will have any problems. |
