I hope the gentoo guys will fix this problem soon. I thought font.conf should make things easy .
GDM and Gnome works for me after I fixed my font.conf, but I think my AA doesnt work . _________________ -der kleine eine- |

I *had* Xft working until a recent gtk merge (why this fsc'd things I dunno...) but /etc/fonts.conf was correct, as was /etc/X11/XftConfig + fc-cahe run in all my font directories. I even tried re-emerging fontconfig.
Nothing was working..
*FINALLY* while looking for some .xsession files in my home directory I noticed a nifty little file called ".xftcache".
I deleted this and now all is well. Xft working again

Thanks to some helpful hints in other thread, I was referred to this one for the gnome problem I'm having (same as everyone else, only starts up in failsafe mode).
I haven't tried to make the font.conf yet, I was wondering if there has been an "official" fix for this. In other words - has a package or something been updated that I can re-emerge to fix this problem? I see that the first post on this was about a month ago, that's why I thought there might be an "official" fix for this.
If not, I'll just update the font.conf, no big deal.
Thanks. |

There's no official fix, because only recently there has been an official bugreport and i myself haven't encountered this problem. There's (imo) several possible causes to this problem, but im not sure exactly why and how. It's probably caused by changes in the xfree ebuild, one thing Azarah always stresses is to run etc-update and update your XftConfig. Well, im sure that isnt like a magical potion and won't fix it for everybody, but it should help in some cases. Most answers in this (and other similar) threads are more like lucky hacks, by folks who don't really know what they're messing with (no offense).
But we're working on a solution one way or the other. _________________ Gentoo Gnome Desktop team |

Oh and disabling XFT should always work btw, altough i know thats nto what you want really.
Set GDK_USE_XFT=0 in /etc/X11/(gdm/)/Sessions/Gnome _________________ Gentoo Gnome Desktop team |
