hi people,
i would like to ask for your help because nor audacity nor glame wants to merge properly on my box. the two ebuilds behave differently so maybe the two problems are totally independent of each other.
the glame ebuild exits normaly but it does not produce the glame executable. it populates /usr/bin only with cglame and glame-convert.sh.
merging audacity gives me the following:
... ...
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/audacity-1.0.0-r1/work/audacity-src-1.0.0/id3lib'
make: *** [id3lib/src/.libs/libid3.a] Error 2
!!! ERROR: The ebuild did not complete successfully.
!!! Function src_compile, Line 35, Exitcode 2
!!! (no error message)
i have a fresh 1.4_r1 install with USE="-gnome alsa tiff -mysql postgres tetex mozilla mozxmlterm" and CFLAGS='-march=pentium2 -mcpu=pentium2 -O3 -pipe'
i'm also asking for your help while i don't really feel confortable about sound in linux in general. for example i don't know how to feel about arts? i would be really greatful is someone could point me some good document overviewing the way sound is handled under linux. i already read a lot, but those docs what i found were about some specific situation.
thanks in advance

I get the same error with Audacity.
My sys:
current gcc3.2 based gentoo
USE="alsa cups samba tcltk tiff mozilla -3dnow gnome"
CFLAGS="-march=pentium2 -mmmx -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"
was going to try glame next, hmmm |

I've read threads recommending O2 over O3 with gcc3.x _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |

unfortunately it didn't change the situation. thanks anyway. anyway it can happen that the dependencies has to be recompiled with -O2...
it would be great if someone could send a make.conf which worked for audacity or glame!
thanx

I had the same problem as everyone here but was able to fix it by commenting line 35 of the ebuild seems this flag isn't working. also note when i downloaded the tarball on my own, i could only build it w/o the "--with-id3" tag, so commenting that line should ommit the tag and end in a compile. |

Hello,
a simple emerge audacity did not work for me, too.
But with an "emerge search audacity" returning only
"Latest version available: 1.0.0-r1" which didn't satisfy my needs
because i wanted the lates stable version 1.0.0-r2 i searched for an alternative.
So with doing a "locate/find audacity" i discovered
/usr/portage/media-sound/audacity/audacity-1.0.0-r2.ebuild
using that with emerge worked for me very well.
But i can only recommend you to use the latest cvs version!
I had no problems so far but a bunch of nice new features with it.
BTW. does anyone know why a standard emerge often don't emerges the newest ebuilds that are available local?
hope that helped,
