Hi,
I'm trying to do a modem-based stage 1 install.
I get as far as chrooting, but then when I do env-update, it tells me that there is no /etc/make.conf. From other posts, I have learned that this is a symlink to a file in /usr/portage, but my /usr/portage is EMPTY. Nothing there, nada, nil, zip.
All I want to do is emerge ppp, pppconfig and wvdial so I can gen online and continue the install.
But with no /etc/make.conf, it won't let me emerge anything. I really want to install Gentoo, but this is kind of holding things up...
TIA,
Martin |

This error is normal for a Stage 1 install. The next step would normally be to do an emerge rsync, but this won't work since you aren't yet connected.
I am not sure if an install over a modem is supported yet with Gentoo at least for stage 1; if it is, there doesn't seem to be any documentaion on it. However, you might check the CD for those ppp packages to get you online.
Do you have the "small" or "big" CD? _________________ ---Atoz |
