Hi. Just about finished with my first install of Gentoo from stage1! It's sweet so far. Anyways, I originally set my XFree86Config file for 1280x1024 at 24bit color, worked great. I want to run it at 1280x960 though, so I went back in and added "1280x960" as the first resolution under the 24bit section. It starts up now with the monitor resolution at 1280x960, but it's as if KDE is still trying to do 1280x1024. I only see the top part of the desktop, if I move my mouse to the bottom edge, the whole desktop scrolls down a bit till I see the bottom part of the desktop with the kde menu. Any ideas? Thanks. |

Well, tried that last night. Wouldn't run while in kde, so I got out of that to the command line, ran it, it did some blinking of the screen then back to command line. I rebooted and no change? When I ran XFree86 -configure, it did say something about now running /root/XF86Config.something. Well, it's not too big a deal, I can go back to 1280x1024 since that worked fine, but I'd like to maintain the 4:3 aspect ration if I can. |

Try adjust the screen size via Control Center, Peripherals, Display.

I think X makes your desktop as big as the biggest resolution in the list by default.
So if you have:
"800x600" "1024x768" "1280x960"
Your desktop size will be 1280x960, but you'll start with a 800x600 viewport into it.
This would cause what you describe. Your desktop is 1280x1024, but you only see 1280x960 at a time. Try removing 1280x1024 from your list of resolutions. _________________ They don't have a good bathroom to do coke in. |
