My goal is a 5 disk software RAID 5 on a Promise Ultra 100 TX/2, a Promise Fasttrak TX/2 (using the "spanned" raid configuration with one disk per RAID, allowing me to use them as part of the RAID 5. I tried this before and it worked fine), and an onboard IDE controller channel.
I went through the gentoo install following the directions of the CD Installation guide and Chris Atwood's helpful software RAID directions (https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=8813&highlight=software+raid).
When I went through the install, I didn't have any disks attached to the Promise Fasttrak TX/2. In the kernel, I made sure to enable (with *):
ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL support --> IDE, ATA, ATAPI Block Devices -->
1. PROMISE PDC202{46|62|65|67|68|69|70} support
a) Special UDMA Feature
b) Special FastTrak Feature
2. Support for IDE Raid controllers
a) Support Promise software RAID (Fasttrak(tm))
When I boot up, I see the following:
Code: | ide: skipping promise raid controller |
I am not able to fdisk or otherwise interface with the disks on the Fasttrak RAID Controller. Is there any way that I can tell linux not to ignore those disks when I am starting up?
Thanks for your help,

M computer is doing the same thing. I had it running perfect but not enough hd space so i resized some partitions and went to re-install gentoo. now when i boot my kernel gives the same message and panics not long afterwards.
I am thinking this is a config error on the kernel becuse before i needed no special boot options or anything. I didn't change anything about the hardware just the partition size. |

Got the same problem here to, got so fed up with it so i bought myself another faster hd instead of my 2x6.4 GB on the raid...
This problem is strange since i don't get it on a 2.4.20 kernel that i compiled myself. |

Grub will hide disks for you (RTM -- I'm too lazy to do it for you ). The question is, once you get into the booted machine, if you can unhide them. Anyone? |

You have to edit /usr/src/linux/drivers/ide/ide-pci.c and correct a bug.
Search the forum for "ide-pci.c" _________________ Queen Rocks. |
