I'm not sure if this is the right location for this, but I thought I might share my experience with X.Org while getting it to function on my Toshiba Tecra 8100 laptop. As we all know, the S3 Savage MX GPU is a dandy, well-supported graphics chip that has outstanding performance...
<Insert crickets chirping here>
Ahem...sarcasm aside, I ran into a problem with X.Org, when specifying the 'savage_drv' driver for it. I got the following:
(EE) LoadModule: Module savage_drv does not have a savage_drvModuleData data object
Now...I did some playing around and configuring, and messing with the xorg.conf file, looked at all the requirements, and how to get stuff setup right. Here is what I found works:
Rename 'savage_drv.o' to 'savage.o' in /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers
Yeah. I thought so, too. Whatever. X.Org is supposed to automatically pick up the driver module with just 'savage' specified in the driver field, but for some reason it didn't, this time.
I am currently figuring out how to get DRI to work for hardware acceleration. I'll post that here, also, when I get it figured out. This may be a bug in X.Org, maybe it's just my system. In any case...for those who have the problem now or in the future.
P.S.: If I put this in the wrong category, please don't be hatin'. My bad. _________________ "There has been an alarming increase in the things you know nothing about."
