So I needa little backup time for my database server. I don't really like the E4500 15min boot time. Plus kernel boot time. Everything is all setup and runing on the backup (Smart-UPS 2200 RMXLNET), but it would be nice to run apcupsd and see power outages/spikes/whatnot, and I've got the cable, but my problem is well, 1 Gota get a DB9->DB25 converter for ttyS0, but I've got this running on ttyS0.
root 1339 0.0 0.0 1680 848 ttyS0 S Jun23 0:00 /sbin/agetty 9600 ttyS0 vt100
And I'd rather not muck with running stuff. So if I install apcupsd and bind it to ttyS0 (the only standard serial port on the E4500) will it screw with anything?
thanks. |

This is just the default settings to have a console listening on the first serial port for anyone running their machine with serial console. You can safely comment out the line in /etc/inittab for ttyS0 and then run
to essentially kill off that listener and be able to use ttyS0. If you're using a serial console however, you'll have to use ttyS1 for the APC unit. |

PERFECT!
I didn't see that in the docs anywhere. I would think that it should probably be said in the docs near the setup section.
thanks. |
