Hi guys,

I'm working on a "gentoo-port" to my 'sable' SMP alpha.
This goody has a Mylex 3-channel Raid subsystem with 15(!) disks inside.
They are used under True64 v5.1 as Raid 0+1 and 5 .
...but are in non-use under gentoo. I boot from external storage cases with 2Gb in sum.

My first big problem I had to solve was to get the smp funtionality into the kernel.
I always hang at boot time with a "oops". Single-cpu was no problem.
After some nights in the related kernel news I took the 2.4.21_pre2 and was successful.
2.5.5x has a very strange behavior when mounting according the fstab.
It looks like as if the scsi devices are in different order than under 2.4.xx.
But... 2.5.59 has EISA-support for my Mylex.(at the moment it boots only single-cpu and makes obscure things on my disks :x

Does anybody have access to an Alpha 2100 or solved the problem?
Or could someone help me with some links/tips/patches to get the right kernel which hopefully detect my DAC960? (in smp-mode)

Any response is good response!
Thanks Rico

You might want to try alpha-sources-2.4.20-r2. While I dont have any SMP alphas myself, we do have gentoo working on several SMP boxes just fine. Try the kernel and join us in #gentoo-alpha on irc.freenode.net :)

cheers .. Bjoern

You can compile it into your kernel - I am using an AS 2100 4/275 - with 4 processors and 1GB ram with the mylex controller. I built the box origionally with a small drive attached to the SYM controller then build a kernel to support the mylex controllers. then replaced the kernel in the ISO for the live cd CDROM and burned a new CD. Finally I installed gentoo normally - it was a long process but it worked.
