So after 5 years on Slackware I have migrated my last remaining machine to Gentoo. I tried Gentoo on it a long time ago and I had endless problems so I went back to Slackware, reserving Gentoo for laptops and servers.
This past weekend I said goodbye to my first Linux distro and took the Gentoo plunge. I only have 2 problems with the migration... one is lm_sensors, which I have found some threads on and will try to follow them.
The other is the "magnetic tape" controller program, or mt. I wrote some backup scripts that utilize this program extensively, and I have been unable to find it. I found mtx and thought it would have similar functionality but so far I am unimpressed. The things I use the most are rewind and retension, of which retension is missing.
Can anyone either tell me that I'm using mtx wrong and correct me, or point me to my beloved mt??? |

THANK YOU!!!
I was tempted to go back since Slackware 10 was released shortly after I switched, but i'm glad I stuck it out. Not only is Gentoo great, but these forums and the community really help!
Awesome. I'm now 110% of where I was when I left Slack 9. |
