Okay this is proberly quite simple but I'm not quite 100% with it today.
As the subject says, Logging in as any user other than root from the Login.app screen fails (just resets the dialog) root is fine.
Login in from the console as anyone and running startx is equally fine..

Had a quick search through the Forums but couldnt spot anything.
Ideas anyone?

Jeremy

Can you make sure that the users that you are trying to log in as have login shells? Creating them without specifying the "-m" option to useradd is a frequent cause of this problem. chsh will fix it. You can check if this is the case by looking at the last field of their /etc/passwd entry.

That was it Clean forgot about the -m to useradd (to much time with adduser under debian??) And never thought to check.

Thanks for the help.

Very Impressed with Gentoo was a Debian evanglist but that has changed, Gentoo seems (so far) to have addressed all the things I wasnt 100% happy with under debian.
