Hi all.
I want to use open office. But reading the threads I now have some questions.
1. What is the difference between Open Office and Ximian Open Office2.
2. Is staroffice better to use?
3. I remember from the past that you need to start a kind of desktop first where you then can click an application, like the writer. Is this still so and if so is it possible to start the application without the "desktop".
I hope some usefull tips are given. _________________ Script your own Gentoo FVWM system and you'll get it more stable then Winblow$ can!
It may cost some effort but you'll get there, and rember problems are often solved by creating new ones! |

1. no idea
2. I find StarOffice annoying...
3. There's no desktop.. or maybe there is but it's possible to run e.g. OpenOffice Writer directly without running the desktop-thingy. _________________ an it harm none, do as ye will. |

For 1:
Ximian OO is like the normal one, but patched by Ximian. Things like nicer looks and icons, because the artist with Ximian are quite good in that field
More info on http://ooo.ximian.com/
I personally prefer the Ximian one, but that is just my taste, both can be installed as binary, so you can try them out for yourself. Good luck! |

1. Search the forum, this question is answered in detail somewhere else.
2. OpenOffice.org is like 95% identical to StarOffice, it lacks a few features but it is surely as useable because OpenOffice.org builds on SO's codebase.
3. The desktop is removed from OOo, it was StarOffice 5 or 6 which had this horrible desktop functionality. It's gone now! |
