Question: for DEVFS you need the option " [*] /dev file system support " enabled in the kernel right?, and if i have, why does the message appear at boot that i need DEVFS enabled, when i have it compiled into the kernel, and not as a module? |

Thats good (or bad)
But this someone might want to explain how to resolve this "problem" if it is a problem. Anyway its irritating to get that screen everytime it boots up...
overall the gentoo system works great. |

Is there any chance that when you folks were installing your new bzImage with devfs enabled into /boot that your /boot partition was not mounted at the time? What says: Code: | $ grep devfs /proc/filesystems |

Dont know really what you mean rac, but my boot partition is always mounted according to /etc/fstab.
And i ofcourse replaced the bzImage in /boot with the new compiled one.
and when i type in this command: grep devfs /proc/filesystems , i dont get any output back.
Code: | knasbox / # grep devfs /proc/filesystems
knasbox / #

So it doesn't have the "noauto" option, huh?

Well, then devfs is somehow not in your kernel. You might want to see this post. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

Works fine now!
Thanks for the help rac, the link you posted made me realize that when i was copying over the new compiled kernel it was in-fact copied over to the /boot dir with no /boot partition mounted there. So i just mounted that partition, copied over the new bzImage-file, did a reboot, and it worked fine.
Thanks again |
