Increase Mouse Pointer Size in KDE

I am using the xfree theme gentoo-blue.
I have following in my ~/.Xdefaults

Xcursor.theme:gentoo-blue
Xcursor.size:48

When I log-in, The mouse-pointer size does increase to 48, but only till, the Splash Screen is shown, Once the session is restored the Mouse Pointer size goes back to 32.

Anyone knows how to fix this. Infact How to make it global than local ?

My screen resolution is 1280x1024 at 60Hz. if that matters.
