I use a fat32 partition for storage in gentoo, because I used it for storage when I still used windows.

Its fstab entry is as follows:
Code:
/dev/hda5 /mnt/wind vfat users,exec,suid,uid=1000,gid=100,rw,umask=0777 0 0

Here is the ls -l output for the example file on the partition, /mnt/wind/pics/2musheep.jpg, I am logged in as senor, who is uid=1000:
Code:
-rwxrwxrwx    1 senor    users       13448 Apr 11 17:36 2musheep.jpg

However, when I try to delete this file, I get:
Code:
senor@memex pics $ rm -rf 2musheep.jpg
rm: cannot unlink `2musheep.jpg': Permission denied

Moving the file to any other filename gives me a similar result. The permissions look like they should be ok. I can delete files as root fine, but not as senor, who is the owner. This doesn't make much sense to me, and I'd appreciate any help in resolving it.

Found two threads: One and Two.

Perhaps there is something in one of those. Specifically, I noticed:
Quote:
umask=0 is the equivalent of chmod 777

As the topic has been covered, lets follow up here.

Locking this one.
