I installed Gentoo 1.2 in my box.

I wonder should I wait for the final release of 1.4
or I should update my 1.2 to 1.4rc1 now?

You could try like i did: Install a gentoo 1.4 on a extra/spare partition. Use the same home dirs and users and make it dual boot in your grubmenu.
I came to the conclusion that for now 1.4 does not give me any advantage although I have a athlon(duron) CPU. In fact I have tried 3 times to get it slightly optimized, but my gentoo 1.2 install wipes the floor with 1.4 for some reason.
Furthermore there are problems with stuff you wont compile yourself, like java and flash. I use kde3.0.3 and flash did not work under gentoo 1.4 (maybe there is a fix to that...) It did however work in mozilla.

Conlcuding: Don't convert yet, but rather practice some poly-os-ism for the time being if you want to test it. Mind you, as soon as I find the problem for my slow 1.4 system I may switch, for the time being I rely on my good old 1.2. You could also decide to completely back up your 1.2 system and revert when it is due.
