I know this isn't a "Kernel & Hardware" problem but it sure is a hardware problem...
Just built a computer and get no display on boot. I'm using a Gigabyte GA-7NNXP MOBO, Leadtek WinFast A380 vid card (based on Geforce FX 5950 Ultra), Antec 550 Watt PSU, and an SATA HD from Western Digital.
So when I boot up, nothing appears on the screen. No beeps, just no display. At first, I realised I didn't have the IDE power port connected for the vid card and made sure to connect it. But on the next boot there was again no picture.
And the card is connected in the AGP slot. |

this is where I would reduce and simplify.
unplug everything but the cpu, memory, and video card.
if that doesn't work, unplug the memory too and make sure it is beeping.
Try another video card, or that one in another computer. |

Can happen quite easily if anything doesn't fit perfectly in the slot. Check processor and RAM first. |

Also listen for how many beeps it gives and look in the manual of your mobo which error that is. Only 1 your ok, more worry _________________ EASY TO INSTALL = Difficult to install, but instruction manual has pictures.

Removed all the power supply connections except the one for the vid card. I know it's beeping when it's supposed to because when the case was laying on its side, it beeped maybe 3 times. And when I sat it upright again it had no beeps and no display. The monitor is obviously not at fault (I'm using it right now).
May just take it to a local dealer to look at. I've never been a hardware buff. I'm a programmer, not an electrical engineer. |
