I got gentoo running nicely on my main pc and trying to install for friend on older compaq proliant 1500 w dual pI 200 mhz processors and over 256 mb ram. The problem is I can't boot off the cd because it uses compaq's propietary memory and won't load into ramdisk. Any suggestions or work arounds for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Have you tried specifying the amount of memory in the kernel params on the boot prompt?
i.e.
# linux mem=512M
or however much you have. I had to do that on my 1700 for it to work. Hope that helps.
