I got gentoo running nicely on my main pc and trying to install for friend on older compaq proliant 1500 w dual pI 200 mhz processors and over 256 mb ram. The problem is I can't boot off the cd because it uses compaq's propietary memory and won't load into ramdisk. Any suggestions or work arounds for this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried specifying the amount of memory in the kernel params on the boot prompt?
i.e.
# linux mem=512M

or however much you have. I had to do that on my 1700 for it to work. Hope that helps.

Tom
