I've just installed Gentoo 1.4 onto an older laptop (Toshiba 330CDS, 266 pentium mmx, 96 Megs ram). It ran pretty slow with other distributions, and I was hoping I could squeeze some additional performance out of it.
Finished all the steps in the instruction guide (with some trouble, but it all seems to have worked out). However, when I booted my new system, it gets to the following line, then freezes.
I've tried both the gentoo patched and the plain vanellia kernel sources, with the same results.
IP: routing cache hash table of 512 buckets, 4Kbytes
TCP: Hash tables configured (established 8192 bind 8192)
NET4: Unix comain sockets 1.0/SMP for Linux NET 4.0
Then nothing...
I copied the kernel from the 1.2 cd into my boot directory, and it boots now. But the PCMCIA network card isn't working.
Any suggestions?

When you tried the vanilla sources, did you reset the /usr/src/linux symlink to point at them? See Kernel stops during boot - No panic.: especially hedix and etherface. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
