Happy birthday, man!

And... you play guitar, eh?

I've been playing since I was... uh, 7 or so.

I'm 19 now. I play a '59 Les Paul Junior... it's my pride and joy.

My other axe is an 86 Japanese Strat.

This all goes through either a Vox 30 watt cambridge, a full stack mesa boogie dual recti.. or a Diezel VH-4.

What type of music are you into?

I jam mainly blues and such...

-Alex

PS: Rock on, man.

I'm more of a rock person. Led Zeppelin, Clapton, etc. I have a crapolicious Peavey ATM, but my parents are giving me $50 for my birthday that I have to use in conjunction with bar mitzvah money to get the cheapest non-epiphone genuine Les Paul I can find.

Does that mean you'll be getting rid of the "sex obsessed" part? That's been freaking me out since you put it in. Hearing about 13 or 14 year old boy's sexual obessions makes me want to gouge out my eyes. 8O

Well, you do know that Plant and Page considered Zeppelein to be more blues than rock, right? ;)

Zeppelin, Floyd, Jethro Tull, and even Van Halen all fall into my category in terms of playing...

My dad raised me listening to Jethro Tull and The Who almost constantly..

You have very good taste for one so young, if you want to take a look back into why music is like what it is today (not the shiity pop) have a listen to how people like Page, Clapton and Peter Green turned what was a culture of blues into the rock of today. Start off with John Mayall's first incarnation with clapton then with Green then listen to how both pushed the boundaries with Cream and Fleetwood Mac (the early Fleetwood Mac, remember Green left to fade into obscurity and mental illness in 1969). And the differences between the Yardbirds Page era and Led Zeppelin.

Download as many Clapton video's as possible but remember that he's not supposedly the worlds best guitarist for nothing, if you can make 3 notes sound better than 20 you're on your way, listen to his playing on the Beatles "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and the slow part of Layla.

I know what you mean - Today's music sucks. I mean, a friend of mine likes Linkin Park, and he tells me to try listening to it. He gives me his iPod, and presses play, and the first thing I hear is some guy screaming "CRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWLLIIIIINNNNNNNNGGGGGGGG IIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNNN MMMMMMYYYYYYYYYY SKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNN THEEEEEESSSSSSEEEEEEE WWWWWWWWWOOOOOUUUUUUUUNNNNDDDDDDDSSSSSSSS TTTTHHHHHHHEEEEEYYYYYYY WWWIIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL NNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTT HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLL"

And the idiot doesn't know what Stairway to Heaven and Hotel California are.

Ahh I remember when I was 13. Actually I don't, I spent most of my puberty drinking cheap cider and sleeping rough in woods. My youth was definitely wasted on me in some respects.

Bah that's a cop out, it's harder to find good new music since it isn't as obvious as just picking up what has stood the test of time but there is good stuff out there. Also it has the added excitement of being "new".

Well IMHO anyway .

Oh and happy birthday Stu! :D

Poor kitty. If I ever see you and I have an iPod handy, I'll thumb up some Nightwish or Secret Garden for you.

Y'all oughta play more bluegrass. Of course, even as a mandolin player I play more jazz than bluegrass .

   The sad thing is, there are much worse bands out there today.

You should take stonent's advice; get some Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is (or was) such an awesome guitarist. Even if you don't like the style of music, as a guitarist you should at least be able to appreciate the quality of playing.

BTW, Happy Birthday! (Happy birthday to Lews_Therin too)

P.S. I'm a Jackson man myself. Not to thrilled about them being bought by Fender last year (or the year before?) though.
