Ready for some wackiness?

I don't agree with people in the United States calling themselves "Americans." North and South Americas are continents. The United States is just a small part of North America. So, why are United Stateians called Americans? It doesn't make sense, and it's my belief that if something is irrational, people should make efforts to change it.

Some people in South American countries have been said to be annoyed by this word usage. It isn't fair to them. What do you guys think?

I think that United Sateians should be called Americans, as well as people from the various other countries inside South America and North America, as well as Central America, which a lot of people tend to forget about. I am from the U.S. and I am proud of that, I'm also proud to be from the America's though, there are a lot of great places here, as well as in other parts of the world I'm sure

Eh, I tend to group Central America and South America together as one entity. I guess since I'm making these kinds of requests, I should do things that make sense, too. That means making the distinction between the two areas.

Why is everyone so hesitant to change a small deal for a greater benefit?

Alright, perhaps "american" might not be the most descriptive way to call a citizen of the United States of _America_ (the north part is not actually stated, is it?) but how do you call an arab from the United Arab Emirates? Or how about Indians and, well, Indians? If anyone, those are the ones _really_ entitled to be called americans. Oh, and what's with those bugs in your computer? Are you having problems with hygiene? Are you on drugs? I saw you coming out of the drugstore!
So many of the words in our vocabulary are misrepresenting the actual items they describe but once they get to common use, it's less trouble to live with them rather than trying to iron out the discrepancies.
Damn political correctness linguist nazis....

Yes, and the common usage of "hacker" should be "cracker," but it's not going to happen.

Deal with it.

Thought you could have figured this one out on your own by now, we who live in the United States coined the phrase Americans and if you don't like it well we will just have to bomb your country...its as simple as that! but seriously who knows why its like that I'm sure theres an answer for it, probably came from those who settled here. I also find it strange that Europeans call Americans yankees while southern people here in the US call people who live in the Northern parts of the US yankees :?:

Hahahaaaa...

That reminds me of what yankee means in Japan: a sort of dude with a cocky care free attitude that usually has a big mouth and sometimes even bad manners. However, high school girls tend to think it's really swell. In fact I think it was them that coined that phrase over in that part of the world.

I love diverse cultures.

Oi. Not like I wasnt born in the Isles. Britania, its the area, not the country.

Besides address the real issue, unless you just enjoy being a little troll. USA - no other countries with america in their title. And since Unionist could be confused with political affiliations in other coutries and statians just sounds stupid, americans it is.

I believe (and could be wrong) that Great Britian is the geographical name of the big island and the United Kingdom is the name of the country. Also, according to my source the full name is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I actually found that last part very interesting.

This is actually one area i will agree with the rest of the world on, football or proper football is the name of the game. American football is the game with the lemon shaped ball. Soccer, I dont know where that came from. But as a player of the sport, I find it only respectful to call it the name it has carried for over 600 years.

POSTSCRIPT. Not meaning to correct you ch, but the game actually has links to back in druid/norse times going back thousands of years ago. -=0)

Yeah, because the middle ages were such a high point for culture that everything they did should be maintained to this day. Football and plague for everybody!
