|
|
Though I'd ask this of you, before I burn my house down
I have obtained 4 SPARCserver 10 boxes, and it's a pain in the arse having a separate power lead for each of them.
Here's my question:
Can I chain the power supplies at all?
I mean, each box has a power-out cable for connecting a monitor up, so can I use this to connect to one of the other boxen? if this is the case, how far do reckon I could go? Chain only two, or three, or all four?
Help much appreciated for my wee OpenMOSIX test setup...
Note: all are headless, with no framebuffers, no CD's, no floppies and 2GB HDD's in them _________________ Docs, Tips & Tricks at the Gentoo Wiki page. |

Depends upon your country. In the UK, chaining four ss10s is fine so long as you use proper cables. |

Yay! thanks for the info - I am going to use cables made up by the Radio Shack in Nicolson Street, so I should be OK. _________________ Docs, Tips & Tricks at the Gentoo Wiki page. |

Follow-up:
Worked beautifully! Now to see if it's possible to chain up the tpe ports, as there are 2 installed in each box (to save hub port space) _________________ Docs, Tips & Tricks at the Gentoo Wiki page. |

Any reason why not ? I was thinking along the lines of having each box in the "chain" a simple forwarder - I understand I'd need the correct crossover cables (can get 'em for nowt). If there's a huge reason e.g. massive performance degradation potential, I'd leave it. Otherwise it's a nice experiment . I don't even know if it's possible yet...although I guess I could use NAT. As you'll gather, I'm fairly un-clued up with the minutae of networks.
But, as I say, if there's a compelling reason, I'll live with the spaghetti... _________________ Docs, Tips & Tricks at the Gentoo Wiki page. |
