Hm. It's marked '-sparc', but I don't know why offhand. You should file a Bug report asking for sparc support, and whoever knows what is going on
will clarify or investigate. I know that snort has worked on sparc/Solaris, but I don't know about linux or what the issues are.
Sort of a non-answer, but to get a good one, you will probably have to open that bug report requesting action.

Snort is currently masked on SPARC because of a problem in the way snort is written and how gcc assembles code. The only way for snort to work on SPARC is to be built in 64 bits, which is not currently supported in Gentoo at the moment (but it's on the roadmap and progress is being made).
