hi folks,

i wanted to try to play ut2003 under linux. so i found out that i have to run the linux installation script from the 3rd cd.

the installation starts. i have to accept the license but than an error occurs:

Quote:
execv: Permission denied
Command: /mnt/d/games/ut2003linux/tmp_script_Pp5i2u
failed to uncompress file.
./setup.sh: line 52: 5046 Aborted "$setup" "$@"
The setup program seems to have failed on x86/glibc-2.1

Fatal error, no tech support email configured in this setup
The program returned an error code (1)

i ran it as user as well as root! same error. do i need a special uncompressor??

hope anyone can help

thx

Just out of the blue I would guess that you don't have glibc-2.1 installed. Another version? Two versions? *shrug* Just guessin' here :)

Try copying the install script to your home DIR. Oddly, it worked for me there, but not off the CD.

didn't work, same error.
is it possible that it doesn't want to be installed on a vfat partitiion? i don't have enough free space, so i tried to install it on a windows partition (sure with write-rights)

Possibly.
There's only one way to find out and that's by trying to install it to a linux partition. You'll see if it works. Cancel it before you run out of space though, we don't want that.

as you can see in this post https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=21872&highlight=
i do have the same problem as you are. i've even tried to upgrade to glibc 2.3.1, which nearly kicked my system out of service  but it wouldn't do the trick anyways. it must be a problem with some internal gentoo package combined with the loki installer. if it's a problem related to glibc anyhow then it's must be due to a patch that is beeing applied before compilation, because - as you can read i my post - with slackware (glibc 2.2.5 [plain]) the install process has no problem at all. i've even emailed the uk-support for the game, but i dont think that they can solve this issue, everyone seems pretty stuck with that problem and i declare it as a bug. I fear that won't help much, though. i'll try to reach infogrames on that, maybe you should try that too, because they'll give more attention to this if more then one email pokes them in the rips. :)

I have the same glibc version here and it installed just fine over here so probably the error isn't in there...

so. here we go.
i think i figured it out. it's a permission problem with execution rights on certain partitions set in /etc/fstab. this seemingly occures only on non-root partitions. so you have to set the exec flag, as you have to set it for cdroms, if you want to execute a shell script from there directly. otherwise it won't work. the ut2003 installer (loki-installer) copies some scripts to the game dir from which a decompression is started. here is where the problem with the exec starts.

another problem that should be stated here is, that the installer will ask you two times to insert disc 2, the second time it asks, insert disc 3, believe me on that ;).

so i hope this helps everyone a bit.

Who would have thought adding 4 letters to a configuration file would make all the difference. "koff"

anyway, I had some wierd problem's with it after I started playing

The first time I ran it I went into the system configuration menu to check the settings and it froze my computer :(

The second time I ran it I was in the vehicle demo and it froze again ..
This time I was eble to kill X with ctrl + alt + backspace, but still made me a little angry.

Then Compleatly unrelated to UT2003 { i think } my computer crash'd a while after running winex-cvs

Has anybody been experiancing similar instability's or could I have some sort of hardware problem?

Again thankyou for any help :)
