Haha, I read that now, when I launched xdm manually from console and got some non-existant wm running Anyway, now I managed to launch mozilla from the xterm I got presented when I had logged in.
Now xhost is found, through my path.
Code: | bash-2.05a$ echo $PATH
/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/local/bin:/opt/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:
/opt/blackdown-jre-1.3.1/bin:/usr/qt/3/bin:/usr/kde/3/bin

Looks better now... Lemme configure my /etc/rc.conf so that I get Gnome launched instead of this... this.... thing... _________________ da SilverSnake is back! |

Ok, now I seem to be able to start applications without any problems from a console. Seems all fine and good.
I still got the issue with the slow startup though, but I guess I cannot get rid of that. One thing I could test is to install the NVidia drivers on my RH installation and see if it works better there or if it's something that has to do with my hardware. _________________ da SilverSnake is back! |

Well, thanks a bunch to everyone who helped me out here... Going to fiddle with the NVidia drivers to see if I can find out more about that. If I believe there's some problems with them in Gentoo I'll get back on that.
Thanks. _________________ da SilverSnake is back! |

Followups on the "slow start with nvidia" issue to X so slow to start up w/NVidia drivers, please. Even though this thread predates that one, there are several problems in here, and I don't think it would be a good idea to lock that one in favor of this. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
