Lo,
I followed all the steps from the x86 installation doc, but when i got to the grub part i got into problems
info:
/dev/hda3 - /boot (under 1024th cylinder)
/dev/hda4 - /
/dev/hda8 - swap
My bios doesn't recognize my 40gb disk (/dev/hda) so it boots from /dev/hdb
----------
so i went the grub command line:
grub> root (hd0,2)
Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83
grub> setup (hd1)
Error 17: Cannot mount selected partition
That didn't work... so i tried /sbin/grub-install /dev/hdb (and /dev/hda3)
df: Warning: cannot read table of mounted filesystems: No such file or directory \ df: Warning: cannot read table of mounted filesystems: No such file or directory \ : Not found or not a block device.
First two errors were because there wasn't an /etc/mtab so did
# mount -a
# cat /etc/mtab
/dev/hda4 / reiserfs rw,notail,noatime0 0 0
mmm, ok, only the root, but ok...
# /sbin/grub-install /dev/hdb
: Not found or not a block device.
eeeeeeeeeeew :/
can someone help me with this?
and will it work with the /boot on the not detectable by bios disk?
don't think so? guess i have to use partition magic (eeeew :/) to create a /boot on /dev/hdb (first and only disk for bios) but the grub problem will still be there
Thx,
