I'm following the installation guide and I need to fdisk my hard drive. My drive does not have a Sun label so I'm building a new one. I've searched the web for the details for my hard drive but the manufacturer specs don't contain all of the attributes I'm asked for.
From merging data from these links: http://www.fujitsu.com/downloads/AU/MAN3xxxSCSI.pdf
http://www.fel.fujitsu.com/home/v3__product.asp?pid=245
I know it has 4 heads.
I know it has 432 sectors / track
I know it has 30,200 cylinders
I know rotation speed is 10025
And that's where the data runs out.
I don't now Alternate cylinders, Physical cylinders, Interleave factor, sectors / cylinder
How do others go about figuring this out.
This is on an Ultra 60. It's a 36 G hard drive.
I have Solaris on the other hard drive, I guess I'll just try to format it from Solaris to see if that applies the sun label.
Any other ideas? I didn't find any questions in the forums about fdisking sun drives.

I had problems with a pair of Maxtor 40Gb drives also.
Automatic setup put them at about 8 gb
In the end I did a quick install of solaris and let solaris fix the disks..
Then when I installed Gentoo and did an FDISK the sun partition was there
Unless you want to keep a dual boot system you CAN run without the Sun Label. _________________ Toady

Yeah, I rebooted off my other hard drive (Solaris) and applied the label using the format command.
Turns out it applied specs that bear no similiarity to the specs I found online. So it appears I would never have guessed correctly.
I should mention that the drive shows up as Fujitsu MAN3367M SUN36G but the only specs I could find were for Fujitsu MAN3367MC which I assumed would be pretty close. Apparently they aren't.

Ok, I didn't know that. I'll keep that in mind. I'm not sure how long I'll keep Solaris around.
Thanks,
