Hi all, n00b with a question here...
Has anyone tried using an x86 machine to help compile stuff for the sparc64 architecture? Is it possible?
I think I've got distccd set up and running on my dual PIII, and I emerged distcc on my Ultra1, but I get "Connection refused" and "Failed to distribute" messages when I 'emerge system'.
Do I need to install a sparc64 compiler on my PIII or something?
Thanks,
Vu. _________________ Gentoo Noob |

Vu,
You need a sparc64 cross compiler on your PIII. That means the compiler runs an an IA32 but emits code for a Sparc64.
You need a whole toolchain, not just the compiler.
There are probably scripts on the web to produce the toolchain you need. If you want to stick with emerge, try crossdev. It has some very grand aims but its both immature and incomplete. I don't know if Sparc64 is a supporterd platform. _________________ Regards,
