I just lost my system to glibc being bad in portage, totally ruined /usr. And all I did was emerge -u

Anyway

So I downloaded the latest livecd and got it all working and kernel compiled.

Now all I get scrolling down the screen is modprobe: modprobe : Can't locate module /dev/ttyS0, and then modprobe: modprobe: cant locate module net-pf-1 << scrolls on and on and on

Help help Help!!!

net-pf-1 is the UNIX domain sockets transport protocol. You forgot to compile it in the kernel, or you compiled it as a module then deleted the module(s) from /lib/modules (which may be the cause for your b0rked system).
In your kernel configuration, go to Device Drivers -> Networking support -> Networking options -> Unix domain sockets and press Y on it (assuming you're running a 2.6 series kernel). For a 2.4 series, poke around the Networking menu for a similarly named entry.
To get /dev/ttyS0 (and S1 etc) you need to enable the serial port driver(s). Go to Device Drivers -> Character devices -> Serial drivers and enable 8250/16550 and compatible serial support (I assume you're using a standard serial port, not something more exotic). This driver is safe to compile as a module.
