i have noticed that when you emerge somthing it runs the configure like normal, but it does a ton of mundane tests on stuff other apps have already tested. is there a cache of the configure results that can be used when building apps? I recently did a stage 1 install of gentoo on an old 300mhz and used distcc with my main desktop, worked fine and fast but the biggest part of the compilation was the configure process. is there anyway to speed this up?

Hi,
I saw (I think in previous Gentoo newsletter) that a config cache is currently implemented in portage CVS and will be made available at next portage release with other cool changes.
