I would normaly volunter, but as I suppose this need to be done rather soon and I'm rather busy now, I wont. But if no one else with desent to good knowledge of the languages shows up, I will be happy to do it within some time...

I'd like a swedish forum, where all the quirks of our "special" characters could be sorted out ;)

How would we go about setting upp a swedish forum?

There are two ways to get a swedish forum created:
  1. Have two blond swedish women show up at my doorstep to plead your case personally. This guarantees you a swedish forum and probably just about anything else you want, too. :)
  2. Or, for the boring, pedestrian approach, go rally your fellow swedish Gentoo users and have them post here about how a swedish forum is really super important.

Send them to me so I can check them out (quality assurance is essential in this case!) and then forward them to Kurt. ;-)

Yep, a swedish forum would be great.
We need somewhere to make plans for our future "world domination campaign".

OK folks -- there seems like enough of an interest in a Swedish forum to warrant creating one. As soon as someone sends me a translated version of this document, I'll go ahead and create the forum. You can send it to klieber at gentoo dot org.

I also need someone to volunteer to be a moderator for the forum. You need to speak Swedish (duh) and check the forums at least once every day or so. (the more often, the better)

The little nationalist in me says that we really need a Swedish forum, and that it's very super important. However, the other more clever part of me says it's pretty stupid. Most of us to speak English and why not share our solutions problems a little more worldwide. And yes, swedes post the best answers. Conclusion, I vote NO.

(Just realized this post was fscked up and that I should keep my mouth shut next time)

I think the idea behind regional/language based forums is not to post there exclusively. I perceive the regional/language forums to be a location where a person can ask a solution if they are having a problem describing it with english. That, and problems that are only going to happen in Sweden (ISP issues for example).

I'm on the translation and if the kids keep fairly quiet, I'll have it done later today.

I won't have time to moderate, though. Henke, you're talman and valberedning now and in charge of finding a moderator. :-)

Translation done and mailed to Kurt.

Now, phpBB does have a Swedish language pack, but it's not installed here... :-)

Thanks for doing the translation! Now the only thing we need is a moderator.

I'm not sure I have the time to moderate either. :(

Having just one moderator seems like bad design anyhow. What if the moderator is hit buy a bus, wants to take a vacation etc.
It would probably be a good idea to have more than one moderator.

If there is anyone who wants to be a moderator for the Swedish forum please speak up. (Or is there allready a moderator who speaks Swedish?)

Imagine a Beowulf cluster of moderators... Sorry, wrong site. :-)

Judging by the Norwegian forum, I don't think there will be all that much traffic in here (quality over quantity) but maybe we should look for several moderators anyway? Seems like overkill, but it might be easier to find two or three half-time moderators than one dedicated full-time moderator.

Having a couple of half-time moderators sounds like a good idea. I would have no problem moderating on a half-time basis... Any others feel up for this?

OK, the first "Natalie Portman pouring hot grits down my pants" quote I see here and I'm locking the thread. :)

Oh, wait...

About the Swedish translation of phpBB... If it's the one I think it is it really sucks. It's filled with grammar and spelling mistakes. However, I've tried to clean up the mess once and rewrttien parts of that translation.

Yes, it sucks. I just haven't got around to fixing it myself (I run two phpBB-powered sites, both just started) so I'd be interested in a copy too, if you feel yours is ready for prime-time.
