Hey,
I am new to Gentoo linux and wan a install 1.4 rc 1 it from the live cd. But now i ve got a problem. I want to have a multiboot System with WinXP. And WinXP needs to be installed on /dev/hda1. Now i want to now if i really need a bootpartition. Redhat can install the bootloader in the mbr and saves the kernel on /.
If there is someone who has a multiboot system with winxp and gentoo can you please help me and tell me what i have to do while install oder after installing.

you dont really NEED it, but its recommended, eh?
why not try
/hda1 = XP
/hda2 = /boot
/hda3 = swap
/hda4 = /
it worked for me |

If you already made your partitions, the boot dir. is in your / partition.
You can install your bootloader in MBR, same as in red hat.
Keep that in mind when you make your menu.lst and install grub.
The manual assume that you have a /boot partition. |
