gproftpd to proftpd

I've been running proftpd for a while now with the help of the handy little tool gproftpd after my mind went numb trying to read the docs for proftpd

However, it's a drag having to start gproftpd everytime, its so much more convenient to have it start at boot time. However, when I do that (or manually from /etc/init.rc/proftpd) my users can't connect.

Fine, I suppose gproftpd has its own file handling permissions. Anyone know if I can easily convert that file so proftpd can understand it?
