|
|
I'm new to linux ...
And I got my TV-out working but I want to have a video I play on full screen on the television ...
When I play a video now ... I only get the picture on my monitor and black on the television ....
Now in windows there was a option called video overlay which took the video you played immidiatly fullscreen to the television ... is this also possible in Linux ? |

you're thinking of theater mode, which is unavailable as far as i know in linux. i also absolutely loved it in windows. =/ i'm currently running my card (9200SE) in clone mode (1280 desktop overlayed onto the tv) and dragging the mplayer window 'till it fills the tv. =( i'm using ati's drivers - there might be a way i don't know about to get the same theater mode effect with the gatos drivers (emerge: ati-gatos) or something else, but i couldn't get it to work. i'll be checking back on this thread in case anyone knows how to... (hehe)

Hmm a pitty .. but my other problem is, I can't even do that (stretch te screen) because I don't see anything on the tv ... movie only plays on the monitor .... not tv ... |

Ok, you probably need the gatos-tv out branch then
It works fine, but you 'll have to use either tv out or vga out
Not both and no switching on the fly
(I have a version here http://fixounet.free.fr/new_gatos/4.3_new/ ) |

The xv unit (overlay) is on head 1 and you want it on head2
I believe you are using ATI drivers
Look for xv in the doc there is maybe an option to put xv on the 2nd head |

To my knowledge the only cards that have 2 xv engines (overlay) are some SIS ones (yes it seems funny) |

I am very interested in getting this to work. It is the one thing keeping me in Windows right now since a lot of movies get played on the tv from the computer that is in another room.
I am willing to attempt some hacking to get it to work, but I'm unsure where to start. I am inclined to think that this might be a mode in the card firmware itself that detects the overlay, so maybe it's a matter of enabling it. That sounds to me like it might be harder to do than if it was just in software since the documentation might be hard to get a hold of.
I'll keep my eyes open on this one and post anything if I find it. |

Just so I'm on the same page as you, try this:
mplayer -zoom -fs -vo xv -display :0.1 *nameofmovie*
just to test that out, also if xv isn't even enabled (try xvinfo) then try the above with -vo x11 (which would work fine at TV resolution anyway...). |

Hi ,
i have a mobility 9600 and also use the ati-drivers. i had to use Option "VideoOverlay" "on" for both displays ( in dual mode) . fglrxconfig only uses this option for the first display. Hope this helps
