Just a note, On the forums at http://love-sources.tpwch.com/, there's a thread for patch requests. If you could take your requests there, I could have one centralized location for all of the patches.

Getting a 404...

Couldn't we just make a sticky topic for this?

take out the comma at the end

That was stupid...

My question would be is there any kernel out yet, maybe even love-sources, which has fixed the nForce2 ATA bug, stopping the nforce2 chipsets from running at full speed?

If this kernel has done it, gimme a link to the ebuild and I'll emerge it

:D Cheers all

the last few -mm isn't compitable with reiser4, but if you want reiser4, you can get speedy-sources or redeeman-sources.

http://oneofone.limitlessfx.com/phpwiki/index.php/SpeedySources/2.6.5-Speedy3
http://redeeman.linux.dk/~redeeman/Redeeman-Sources

both releases are made by the love-sources community.
speedy got more patches than redeeman-sources, but you need to enable grsec for speedy3 to compile.

ck-sources also have them, but it is based on 2.6.4 until con comes back

Ok now I have a weirdass quirk while trying to build the bits necessary to emerge love-sources

bash-2.05b# emerge --digest love-sources-2.6.6_rc2-r1.ebuild
Calculating dependencies \!!! aux_get(): ebuild for '/love-sources-2.6.6_rc2-r1' does not exist at:
!!! /usr/portage//love-sources/love-sources-2.6.6_rc2-r1.ebuild
emerge: create(): aux_get() error on /love-sources-2.6.6_rc2-r1; aborting...

Is anyone able to point me out where I am going wrong or what I need to get for this to work?

Cheers

Read the install guide linked to in my signature. It soesn't look like you have your overlay directory set up properly.

Tis ok now steel, it's workin and booting..........but a few issues need to be resolved

Namely it's using some of my configs from my old 2.4 kernel, which irks me, and the nvidia driver kicks up a stink about tainting the kernel, and cause of it supposedly being:

Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer

Any ideas how I can resolve these small issues?

Cheers

The nvidia kernel has always tainted the kernel. That's nothing new. It's becuase it uses a proprietary license. There's no way around that. DO NOT use a config from a 2.4 kernel. That's just a bad idea. They are very rarely compatible across minor number (2.X). Could you post the oops you're getting in dmesg? I'm betting it's not nvidia.

will do steel, just watchin my machine here from a mates one recompile the kernel, will output the log of it once I get onto my machine

I've made a few kernel changes anyway, seeing if a few different options will work better than I had it before

Such is life eh

Cheers

Umm...kick me for this steel, but yes, it was my own lil boo boo

even tho I had it set on the kernel autoload for the 2.6 to load nvidia drivers, it didn't, it went for the 2.4 :(

Shoulda deleted the 2.4 autoload before rebooting shouldn't I

Now a fully fledged Love Sources Kernel user :D

For those of us using nForce2 boards, I'll be working thru the latest love-sources kernel finding a good configuration for it, and if it's ok whit steel, I can host it on our webspace, or forward it to him

I mastered the 2.4 series kernels, smallest I was ever able to get on my machine was 830Kb, fully functional

Now I'm across successfully to the 2.6 Kernel, I'll start work on finding the best kernel configuration I can

 Wonder how well I can do it.......teeheeheehee......should be a blast

Cheers

It's different for every machine. You can't find the ideal kernel configuration for every nforce2 user out there. ;)
And generally I think if somebody's using love-sources he should know how to configure an optimal kernel for his system.

But try it and have your fun. :)

Hopefully bootsplash will be in the next release or did I miss something?

EDIT: Next time I'll finish reading the thread before posting.

Hi there,

I cant compile the love-sources. I got Problems with the hires time patches.

Its an amd64 issue. dan u perhaps post a version for amd64? If u aint got time to do it I can surely help u.

The return of the failed compiletion is:
Code:

make[1]: >>arch/x86_64/kernel/asm-offsets.s<< ist bereits aktualisiert.
  CHK     include/linux/compile.h
  CC      kernel/posix-timers.o
In Datei, eingef?gt von kernel/posix-timers.c:45:
include/linux/sc_math.h:303:1: Warnung: >>div_long_long_rem<< redefiniert
kernel/posix-timers.c:1133: error: conflicting types for `wall_jiffies'
include/asm/vsyscall.h:52: error: previous declaration of `wall_jiffies'
make[1]: *** [kernel/posix-timers.o] Fehler 1
make: *** [kernel] Fehler 2

I like love-sources a lot. But they dont like my amd :(

thans,

Don

@steel300

Hey man...thanks for the packet-cd patches (UDF). I havent tried this release yet as am waiting for you to say they are fixed.

Does this mean that they will make it into 2.6.6-love1?

How do you get hold of the patches for 2.6 (the packet-cd site only has download for 2.4)? Mailing list? Secret backdoor into Jens Axboes computer? 8) 8)

Thanks a lot for all you hard work.

Sawan

Although you can apply the patch, after a few errors that need to be adjusted by hand, to this kernel, it doesn't compile - something in the mm-patch (not the extra patch from love-sources) stops it from compiling. I believe Steel is working on it, but we will see if he can fix it.

If you need it badly, it does compile correctly on 2.6.6-rc1-love1. I don't think there is a huge difference between the two.

Apply the mki and Kernel-win4lin patch (available from the Netraverse site), the mki will apply ok, the Kernel-win4lin patch has, I think 3 rejects, which can be corrected by hand fairly easily. (Look at the reject files and find the corresponding lines of code and make the adjustments by hand - I don't know if you have done this before, if not, it is not as hard as it sounds)

I have it running oh so sweet on 2.6.6-rc1-love1 as I speak.
