I installed farcry via the loki installer, followed all instructions, changed my .cvswinex/config,yadayadayada, but when I try to start farcry (via the script or directly) the window pops up, but then there is an access violation and everything dies. The terminal prints some stuff about dsound among the tons of other ignored warnings. Can anybody tell me how to get FarCry working? (using absolute latest cvswinex).

The latest winex is not always the best one, give the last "release" a try. And maybe this helps:

Hey! I was having this exact same problem. Found out that farcry had changed my settings. Open up system.cfg and make sure you have the line:

r_Driver = "OpenGL"

instead of the default MS one.

No, Loki did that for me. Anyway, I figured it out myself. I had installed it into /usr/games/farcry without giving myself RW access. Just did a recursive chown and I was fine.

How well does it run? I've been having a hell of time keeping it stable in Windows 98, but I've been reluctant to try it in Linux.

i am planning on buying it soon but I was wondering, does it run with a gf2mx? (even at minimall video quality)

and this winex from cvs, does that work? because software in the cvs tree is constantly under development right? so, what if they would ypdate some parts of the source that would make the winex in cvs crash? (or not compile/run at all)

Are you crazy? No, seriousely, you might get AA (Americas Army) to run moderately well at UltraLow with a card like that, but FarCry is the absolute latest in graphics technology (maybe even better than HL2). I run it at 800x600xMedium quality on my GF4 TI 4400 (AGP 4x) and I get a good framerate. Not great. Good. It runs with just a couple uncommon graphical glitches if you follow the guide (running a cvswinex installed with fudd's pthread script), and the graphical glitches are not bad at all. My only complaint is having to change the resolution manually with xrandr to get fullscreen.

It runs perfectly rock solid finished the game without a glitch.
~60fps 1200x1024 almost everything on low. AA & AF turned up a little.
And as far as GF2 mx.
lmao installed into wifes PC, K7 1100, GF2 MX400.
~7fps 800x600 everything on low. (win98SE)

In wine there is no need to use xrandr for fullscreen just set resolution to same as your default in X.
Grafical glitches I saw a blue palm tree but that was only on 1 screen and it was only the 1 palm tree, could have been a farcry bug not wine.

I am used to low detail so that isnt a prob :) as long as it doesnt need vertex shader 1.1 and pixel shader 1.1.
