DVD encoding problem with dvdrip/transcode

I was following a guide on using dvdrip, and it said that for interlaced movies, you should try using the dilyuvmmx plugin to do the deinterlacing, since it's much faster than the built in method. I tried using both, and the plugin was noticeably faster, but every time the picture changed in the movie, there would be a flash of the previous screen with large black lines through it, which is really annoying when watching the encoded file. It doesn't happen when using the builtin method. Is there anything I can do to get rid of this effect?
