switched kernels from vanilla-sources to gentoo-sources. upon reboot, X doesnt work. so i figure "whatever, i'll just re-emerge the nvidia drivers".
doing that doesnt change anything. should i:
Code: | emerge unmernge nvidia-drivers |
and then re-emerge? when the NVidia module loads it says it failed. so i know that it needs to be recompiled. for now, i've gone back to my main kernel, but i just figured i'd give the gentoo kernel a whirl. is there any advantage to using it? _________________ I used gentoo BEFORE it was cool. |

everytime you change your kernel you need to emerge nvidia-kernel, and dont forget to opengl-update nvidia |

i DID emerge that afterwards and nothing happened. didnt change a thing. hell, it didnt even recompile it for the new kernel. just unpacks it and that's it. says its done. in the future, should i unmerge and then re-emerge something in order to re-compile it for new conditions? _________________ I used gentoo BEFORE it was cool. |

Before remerging nvidia-kernel, make sure that the /usr/src/linux symlink is pointing to the gentoo sources. I suspect that it's still pointing at the vanilla sources. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
