Excuse my ignorance, but if I use this liveCD to install Gentoo, how would I connect through my adsl connection? There are no adsl scripts that I can find. Do I have to set it up manually or am I missing something(like the purpose of this liveCD)?

yes, i forgot the net-setup thing, but oh god, it must be possible to setup net manually, ppl that want to try reiser4 and which does it, should know how to.

and the purpose of the cd, i totally understand that there is no need, i will just grab some of the other livecds that has a reiser4 enabled kernel, and also contains the userspace tools.

What happens when the next reiser4 snapshot is released
or when the stable version's released?
Do you have to format the partition again or do you
just upgrade the tools or what???

That is a really good question! (do we need to reformat when the full version is released?)

I think there is a freeze on code that would change the on-disk format and right now they are focusing on getting it stable.

Yes! I was just about to do it the hard way.

Is there a ReiserFS4 patched kernel on the CD?

What are the commands to format my hd in reiser4?
Also, is the patched grub in portage? Or do I have to find the patch myself and patch it manually? (I have no problem patching manually, I just need to know).

Also, to anybody that has re-built gentoo with reiser4, is there any compile problems with using reiser4 or not?

Thanks in advanced!

Ok, so I have a system now and it is kind of borked after a crash last weekend.

If I want to use Reiser4, should I just reformat? Keeping boot and swap?

Then using your LiveCD, install Gentoo again, i.e. format the old /root with Reiser4, reinstall patched(?) GRUB, compile patched kernel, etc.

Would that do it?

Btw, this box dual boots with WinXP, but I don't think that's relevant.

yeah, keep /boot and swap, and DONT make /boot reiser4 no matter what!!!

just follow the ordinary gentoo install guide, but do mkfs.reiser4 to make the root filesystem :)

could it be that the sil3112 serial-ata drivers are not included in this iso..?
that's the only thing holding me back from reiser4 as i can't access my disk without these drivers.... :?

PostPosted: Sat Apr 24, 2004 11:29 am    Post subject: just the kernel...? Reply with quote

where can i get the kernel from that is used in this livecd?

i'm running wolk-1.0 and got quite a lot of problems, and patching the 2.6.5 w/ the 2.6.5-rc2 patch for reiser4 doesn't work (i mean the compile fails), and i've got even problems getting it to compile w/ 2.6.5-rc2 reiser4 patched...

anyways, if someone could please specify where the patched kernel - or the patches for 2.6.5 to create the kernel used in the mentioned livecd - then that'd be really appreciated!

thx in advance!

http://redeeman.linux.dk/~redeeman/Redeeman-Sources/2.6.5-Redeeman2/2.6.5-redee1.bz2

thats the kernel i use, basically all this is, is that i patched reiser4 into 2.6.5, and then the tail.c fix, cfq and v30b

if we say that the kernel source is:

/usr/src/linux

patch: /usr/src/2.6.5-redee1

do:
cd /usr/src/linux
patch -p4 <../2.6.5-redee1

:)
