for some reason i cant log in any longer. i have the login prompt like so:
Code: | localhost login: username [enter]
localhost login: |
it comes right back to the prompt without a password prompt or anything.
this is URGENT. i desperatly need this to work, and dont have time to reinstall. please help!!

you should use a Gentoo install CD to connect to your system.
doing the chroot.
Then you might be able to do something.

yeah, that works, but then what? i cant really do much without the users i have. is there something i need to re-emerge or something? how do i fix this?

From there you are logged as root.
So you should be able to reset your user password, ar check what might be wrong with the user configuration. |
