WoW works flawlessly under Cedega. No mouse problems, nothing. I do agree with the people saying that a Linux port of WoW is never going to exist. A good majority of their clientele are Windows users and they aren't going to bend over backwards to port the software to the Linux platform. Really if you want to play WoW under Gentoo, get Cedega. It takes all the guesswork and configuration (mostly) out of playing it under Wine.

The only problem is, that'd mean linux gamers are supporting windows gaming. Sorta backwards, eh?

Signed it...hmm approx 25000 signatures 25000*15 = $375000 that they aren't catching right now for not having a linux client
Oh and not to forget 25000*50 = $1250000 (over 1 Million dollars) which they missed for people not buying the game because it doesn't support linux!
That is quite alot of money if you'd ask me.

And those are also pure estimates. I don't believe that almost all of those people would buy WoW. Maybe around 40-60% of people who signed this petition would actually buy WoW. And why *15? Doesn't WoW cost around $30?

I believe the $15 is the monthly subscription price to use the game.

Although I don't play WoW, I'm always down for porting Windows Games to Linux. :D

If you are thinking that they are going to make a port to Linux because of money? You are mistaken. Big time! Every month they get a lot... I mean.. a lot of money! Despite the fact, that the game isn't supported under Linux. So, if we want to have a port... we'll have to go one step beyond petitions...

I said it before and I'll say it again I believe one reason we will never see a linux port is this petition...

There are 3.5 million windows users who pay the $15 monthly fee and with the petition there are ~25,000 linux users that promise to buy a linux copy and play it in linux. It is unknown how many of these already own the windows version and how many of these signed it and have no intention of buying the game so even the 25,000 number is suspect. How can any sane manager after seeing these numbers think that it is a good idea to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a linux port?

No reason to sign this, it's not going to happen.
At least Blizzard is better than Sony.

Unfortunately 2 years later after the linux client leak, reality sets in. I truly hate to say it, but Blizzard will not be releasing a linux client, ever. Regardless of the linux userbase exploding or the number of signatures on the petition, it simply won't happen due to many business related reasons. We can "run" it using wine, which is their excuse for "unofficial" support for the Linux platform. They don't, and won't care about downtime for Linux users during patches or bugs, just keeping a majority of users with an active account.

goddammit.. why don't you get it??!? I signed that petition, too, but that doesn't mean I don't play WoW. I love the game, and just because there isn't a native version won't stop me!

As this petition seems to be deleted (or something; it only returns 404 at least), then please consider signing this petition on PetitionOnline instead! It's currently only got 47 signatures, which can't be representative of the total Linux users interested in WoW (or opposite).

Actually, it isnt hard at all porting wow to linux. The main blocking task in porting a game to linux is the migration from DirectX to OpenGL.
But oh wait! Wow has already its opengl version! IMHO it needs some tweaks to interact with the linux kernel and the video driver, instead of the hybrid windows kernel, its services and the video driver (which they should be almost the same thing, since ATI and nVidia are the same closed source drivers but with directX stripped from them) and voila.

Nice exhumation of this thread, though...
