After install machine hangs at "Starting local"

Hi all,

I'm trying to install Gentoo 1.4rc1 onto a Dell Inspiron 8200, after building all the software and rebooting for the first time the machine hangs at:
"Starting local"... I have tried checking /etc/conf.d/local.start for mistakes, but I cant seem to see any...

I have subsequently done the bootstrap and "emerge system" again with CONFIG_PROTECT="" in the hope that it might solve the problem, no luck.

Any ideas?

Finally got in

recompiled kernel with a make mrproper first and minimum features enabled.
Stripped all kernel parameters from grub.conf
