Just a couple of quick notes about the current install docs for 1.4.
Could we include simple steps for using fdisk?
I needed to mount my cdrom to retrieve the stage1 tar file from /mnt/cdrom/nocompress. The 1.3 docs explained mounting the cdrom for the newbies out there and this should be added ?
How about spelling out the cpu settings for make.conf such as what a Celeron or what a Duron should be.
I was confused to find my changes to make.conf kept disappearing untill I read that this was normal behaviour. Need to point this out in the docs.
Great work everyone! |

Where did you read that this is normal? make.conf gets temporarily moved to make.conf.build during the bootstrap, and if you abort bootstrap you will have to move it back yourself, but if the bootstrap completes successfully, it should be restored at the end. If you're referring to portage upgrades overwriting make.conf, you should be able to make this decision when you update configuration files.
In other words, I don't think make.conf getting overwritten is normal, and if it's happening to you consistently, something strange is going on. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I'm sorry I didn't state that quite right what I should have typed was exactly what you've stated as it was in the forum post I mentioned. I'll try and find the post...
