In the handbook it uses vanilla source, but besides that looking through the forums I really didn't see what is most suggested.
I'm inclined to use the development-sources (2.6).

Anyone with an Ultra 10 give me any suggestions? Should be pretty much cut and dry (I hope)

if you want to use your soundcard, you'll be better of using the sparc-sources
... well I hope I'm right with this one (yeah I think so :))

Yes I will concur there, Vanilla sources I don't think will get you the sound driver and I hear that sound for these is broken n the 2.6 kernels. I have used Sparc-Sources on all three of the Ultra 10 installs I have done, with good success.

good luck,
Rick

I'm totally a Sparc Linux newbie [I've done x86,amd64,alpha]. I noticed the sparc-sources are what the CD boots, so I used them. [it would be nice if the docs steered you to sparc-sources at least for first-timers] It's worked fine so far, also the default .config is nice out of the sparc-sources.

I don't know if my cloning technique is obvious or not... But I thought I would share it with you guys. It's not very interesting if your boxes do totally different tasks i.e. nfs server vs X11.

1. boot both source and destination boxes off CD
2. setup networking and mount root (make root on destination with fdisk etc)
3. on destination: rsync -a root@sourcebox:/mnt/tmp /mnt/tmp
4. on destination: fix fstab and ip/hostname if needed
5. chroot and run boot loader (possibly fixing it's config file)
6. reboot

A time saver on emerging stuff and the install/config. Kind of like a personalized "stage 4" tarball. ;)
